Bangin' Businesses
Entrepreneurship is more than just starting a business, it's a way to create value, solve problems, and leave an indelible mark on the world. From lessons in my own journey of product selling on Amazon through Seller Central to the transformational work of the Boys & Girls Club, I explore what sets truly successful entrepreneurs apart in mindset and skill from the rest.
I have seen the challenges and rewards that go with entrepreneurship, as I started small by testing products on Amazon and building my business piece by piece. Maybe the biggest thing I've learned from this process is to dream big but start small-to think about major outcomes while taking smaller, manageable steps toward those ultimate goals. Similarly, the Boys & Girls Club instills this principle in young people by encouraging them to set ambitious goals while teaching them practical skills that would enable them to achieve those dreams.
Of course, there's failure-and that is a critical part of the journey. Where pricing went awry, where inventory went wrong, and when marketing just didn't work, I was able to consider such failures an opportunity for me to learn and grow. The same Boys & Girls Club engenders this resilience among youths to understand that failure is not the end but rather a stepping stone to success. As they do that, they prepare young people against the brutal struggles that life holds ahead.
One of the keys to being an entrepreneur—and to life—is learning about building good relationships. The relationships that have been built through my business, from suppliers to mentors and customers, are invaluable. Teamwork and collaboration are key principles learned at the Boys & Girls Club, providing kids with the necessary tools to develop meaningful relationships and networks. Such skills are determinant for a person's success in any field: whether it be business, education, or community leadership.
Perhaps taking action is the most important thing in any entrepreneurial journey. Being very apprehensive, and pretty unsure, the first time I launched my Amazon product, the only thing I knew was that I must act to learn and grow. The Boys & Girls Club really helps kids to believe in trying new things out of their comfort zones, so they will have the courage to take great opportunities.
And finally, entrepreneurship is more than about personal successes alone; it's about giving back to society. That's what the Boys & Girls Club does by creating programs that uplift an entire community and inspire yet another generation. They teach them that making a difference in people's lives and having a contribution to society is important. I can totally relate to that because in my business, too, I am eager to make sure that those I serve are positively affected.
